Howard Sandroff's Course Material
Our upcoming guest, Howard Sandroff, would like the students to be familiar with Pierre Schaeffer’s Solfege de l’Objet Sonore (Music Theory of the Acoustic Object). Here is the link to the book and a CD set. He wants you to read the booklet and listen to all CDs; it should take about 2hrs. (Minimum effort: Listen to CD1 and read the chapter regarding CD1.)

Presentation of Sound Artists
Here my suggestion on who is doing what and when ... Since the course is very small -- we might not cover all the artists listed below -- unless you were interested in presenting two ... Something to think about?
Depending on our class size, every student will be assigned an artist to present to the course. The presentation should give an overview of the persons artistic career and art making. Choose some pivotal points and works. Keep the presentation to 45 min. (depending on audio/visual examples it might be longer). Please make an appointment with me one week prior to your presentation to outline and discuss your presentation with me. Best would be to meet with me during my office hours on Wednesday 11-12.30pm.
List of artists and one art movement:
Fluxus (BOX WITH THE SOUND OF ITS OWN MAKING) EXCURSION TO WESERBURG on 11/24
Alvin Lucier (I AM SITTING IN A ROOM) Jessica on 12/15
Terry Fox (I AM SITTING IN A ROOM) Student tba
Christian Marclay (Recyled Objects - object/site-specific) Marek on 1/12
Robin Minard (Recyled Objects - object/site-specific) Student tba
Christina Kupisch (SOUNDMARKS - site-specific) Benjamin on 1/19
Hildegard Westerkamp (SOUNDMARKS - Acoustic Ecology) Student tba
Francisco Lòpez (SOUNDMARKS - Acoustic Ecology) Student tba
Carsten Nicolai (SOUNDMARKS - Digital Musics) Student tba
Yasunao Tone (SOUNDMARKS - Digital Musics) Tobias on 1/26

Reminder: What is Sound Art?
What do you think Sound Art is?
Write down a few ideas and see if you think the same way by the end of the semester.
Last week we agreed that you write a couple paragraphs in regard to the question before and after the reading.
If you email me your questions before 5pm I will be able to read them, otherwise I cannot. For the future please remember to email me your responses by Monday mornings (until noon)! Thank you.
