Interessante Ausschreibung

http://www.br-online.de/bayern2/hoerspiel-und-medienkunst/wettbewerb-artmix-galerie-time-is-on-your-side-ID1260875158173.xml

Wettbewerb

Re. Pierre Schaeffer

In 1966 Schaeffer published the book Traité des Objets Musicaux (Treatise on musical objects) which represented the culmination of some 20 years of research in the field of musique concrète. In conjunction with this publication, a set of sound recordings was produced, entitled Le Solfège de l'Objet Sonore (Music Theory of the Acoustic Object), to provide examples of concepts dealt with in the treatise.

Howard Sandroff's Course Material

Our upcoming guest, Howard Sandroff, would like the students to be familiar with Pierre Schaeffer’s Solfege de l’Objet Sonore (Music Theory of the Acoustic Object). Here is the link to the book and a CD set. He wants you to read the booklet and listen to all CDs; it should take about 2hrs. (Minimum effort: Listen to CD1 and read the chapter regarding CD1.)

BeatBearing Tangible Sequencer

Bulbes: http://www.artificiel.org/bulbes

Presentation of Sound Artists

Here my suggestion on who is doing what and when ... Since the course is very small -- we might not cover all the artists listed below -- unless you were interested in presenting two ... Something to think about?

Depending on our class size, every student will be assigned an artist to present to the course. The presentation should give an overview of the persons artistic career and art making. Choose some pivotal points and works. Keep the presentation to 45 min. (depending on audio/visual examples it might be longer). Please make an appointment with me one week prior to your presentation to outline and discuss your presentation with me. Best would be to meet with me during my office hours on Wednesday 11-12.30pm.

List of artists and one art movement:

Fluxus (BOX WITH THE SOUND OF ITS OWN MAKING) EXCURSION TO WESERBURG on 11/24

Alvin Lucier (I AM SITTING IN A ROOM) Jessica on 12/15

Terry Fox (I AM SITTING IN A ROOM) Student tba

Christian Marclay (Recyled Objects - object/site-specific) Marek on 1/12

Reminder: What is Sound Art?

What do you think Sound Art is?
Write down a few ideas and see if you think the same way by the end of the semester.

Last week we agreed that you write a couple paragraphs in regard to the question before and after the reading.

If you email me your questions before 5pm I will be able to read them, otherwise I cannot. For the future please remember to email me your responses by Monday mornings (until noon)! Thank you.

AtmoSpaces (2009)
von Åsa Stjerna & Rolf Giegold

28. Oktober bis 6. Dezember 2009 - permanent
Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz, Berlin

------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------
AtmoSpaces (2009) ist das Projekt einer künstlerischen Intervention
von Åsa Stjerna (Stockholm) und Rolf Giegold (Berlin) für
verschiedene, ausgewählte öffentliche Räume, in denen akustische

Vortrag
Im Rahmen von AtmoSpaces findet am Donnerstag 12.11 2009, um 19 Uhr
im Projektraum general public, Schönhauser Allee 167c, 10435 Berlin,
ein Vortrag des Philosophen Gernot Böhme zum Thema "Atmosphären des
klanglichen Raumes" statt. Eintritt frei

Realisert mit freundlicher Unterstützung des Swedish Arts Grants

AtmoSpaces (2009)
by Åsa Stjerna and Rolf Giegold

28th October until 6th December 2009
Akademie der Künste, Pariser Platz, Berlin.

AtmoSpaces is an artistic intervention project developed by Åsa
Stjerna and Rolf Giegold for various selected interiors of public
buildings in which acoustic elements are considered to be fundamental
to the creation and perception of a characteristic atmosphere. This
ongoing project makes the acoustic design of a selected interior
perceptible by means of sound. One of the intentions behind this
exploratory project is to sensitize people to their everyday
environment and to cause them to reflect upon the active process of
listening – as opposed the passive process of hearing – within the
actual acoustic situation in which they find themselves. A specific
place always has a specific acoustic atmosphere that is basic to our
perception and to our subjective interpretation of it. Through
deliberate yet minimal acoustic changes and interventions, the place
now makes its “appearance” as a consciously perceived phenomenon.

The chosen venue for the first presentation of AtmoSpaces was the
public passageway through the Academy of Arts on Pariser Platz,
Berlin, an enclosed space distinguished by its unique acoustic/
architectonic atmosphere. The characteristic noises all along and
beyond this “corridor” are recorded “live”, processed digitally and
then fed back into the room. The resulting minimal changes in
acoustic structure, its barely noticeable surging and receding and
the calculated superposition of recorded sounds not only generate an
atmosphere that reflects the actual tonality of the room but also
render the collective structures of the immediate social environment
– the Academy – acoustically visible.
